Ms. Stephanie Fedora of Jakarta, Indonesia is the recipient of the 2015 Mize-Infinity Scholarship from the University of Georgia. The College of Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship and the Awards Committee at the University of Georgia made the final decision to award the Mize-Infinity Scholarship to Ms. Fedora. She’s been awarded an academic scholarship for the 2015-2016 school year.
Ms. Fedora is studying Family Financial Planning in the Department of Housing and Consumer Economics. Her long-term goal is to be a Certified Financial Planner.
The Mize-Infinity Scholarship
Endowed in 2009, The Mize-Infinity Scholarship is a Perpetual Fund Agreement between the principals of Infinity Network Solutions and the Arch Foundation at the University of Georgia.

History of The Mize-Infinity Scholarship
The Mize-Infinity Scholarship is named in honor of Jessie Julia Mize, Ph.D., a native of Jackson County, Georgia. Dr. Mize received her early education in the public schools of both Commerce and Rome, Georgia. After graduating from Commerce High School in 1926, she attended the Georgia State Teachers’ College, in Athens, Georgia for two years.
She then studied at the University of Georgia, earning her Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1930, a Masters of Science in Mathematics in 1931, and a Bachelor of Science in General Home Economics in 1932.
Dr. Mize did her graduate work at Columbia University in New York City, and Iowa State University. She earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1952 from Cornel University, in New York. Her dissertation was entitled “Methods for Studying the Home Management Aspects of Kitchen Storage Space for Farm Homes.”
Dr. Mize’s professional career was remarkable. From 1932-34 she taught in a rural school in Berrien County, Georgia. In 1934 she served in various County and District positions with the Farmers’ Home Administration in Georgia. She served as Research Editor for the Consumer Purchases Survey for the USDA and FERA.
Dr. Mize was the Executive Secretary for the Georgia Nutrition Committee during World War II. From 1945-49 she held various County and special assignments with the Georgia Agricultural Extension Service doing home demonstration work.
After a leave to do her graduate studies she returned to The University of Georgia in 1952 where she was jointly staffed with the state office of the Cooperative Extension Service as a special agent, and with the College of Home Economics for the Housing and Home Management Department.
In 1957 Dr. Mize was named Head of the Department of Housing and Home Management. During her tenure she was instrumental in beginning the Fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS) Legislative Aide Program. She retired in 1974 as Professor Emeritus.
Dr. Mize remained professionally active long after retirement. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi; Phi Beta Kappa; Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Lambda Theta. She was President of the University of Georgia’s Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.
She was a member of the Georgia and American Family and Consumer Sciences Associations as well as the University of Georgia and FACS Alumni Associations.
Dr. Mize was also a fifty-year plus member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She served as regent and honorary regent in the Elijah Clarke Chapter of the DAR. She served as President of the Daughters of Colonial Wars in Georgia.
Dr. Mize was a genealogist who authored family histories. Her book, “The History of the Home Economics Department at The University of Georgia,” is a valued resource at the University today.
