History of The Mize-Infinity Scholarship

The Mize-Infinity Scholarship is named in honor of Jessie Julia Mize, Ph.D., a native of Jackson County, Georgia. Dr. Mize received her early education in the public schools of both Commerce and Rome, Georgia.  After graduating from Commerce High School in 1926, she attended the Georgia State Teachers’ College, in Athens, Georgia for two years.

After a leave to do her graduate studies she returned to The University of Georgia in 1952 where she was jointly staffed with the state office of the Cooperative Extension Service as a special agent, and with the College of Home Economics for the Housing and Home Management Department.

In 1957 Dr. Mize was named Head of the Department of Housing and Home Management. During her tenure she was instrumental in beginning the Fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS) Legislative Aide Program. She retired in 1974 as Professor Emeritus.
